We use 100% organic and fair trade high-quality coffee beans. Furthermore, our coffee beans are masterfully roasted and delivered to you within days of roasting for optimal freshness.

DO YOU HAVE A BLEND GUIDE?
As most things in life the answer is Yes and No. Some of our offerings were designed to match the overall flavor notes of some of the more popular *Nespresso® Grand Cru offerings, using organic ingredients. Our signature blends and pure origin coffees are exclusive to Barrie House Coffee and are truly unique from any of the Nespresso® Grand Cru offerings.

WHAT IS SPECIALTY COFFEE?
All green (raw or ‘unroasted’) coffee beans are graded on a scale of 1 (best) to 7 (worst). Specialty coffee is defined as grade 1 Arabica coffee beans and make up only 1% of all the coffee harvested and processed in the world. Specialty Coffee is the only type of coffee that is used by Barrie House Coffee in our Nespresso® compatible capsules.

WHAT IS USDA CERTIFIED ORGANIC COFFEE?
In order for coffee to be certified and sold as organic in the United States, it must be produced in accordance with U.S. standards for organic production and certified by an agency accredited by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. U.S. requirements for organic coffee production include:

• Land must be free of synthetic pesticides or other prohibited substances for three years.
• There must be a sufficient buffer between the organic coffee and the nearest conventional crop.
• A sustainable crop rotation plan to prevent erosion, the depletion of soil nutrients, and control for pests.

WHAT IS FAIR TRADE CERTIFIED COFFEE?
Fair Trade coffees are just that–Fair. From far-away farms to your cup, products displaying the Fair Trade logo come from farmers and workers who are justly compensated. Fair Trade helps farmers in developing countries build sustainable businesses that positively influence their communities.

OUR USDA ORGANIC CERTIFICATION – WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
It’s a commitment to the organic product, by which we ensure that our handling, roasting, and packaging methods are performed per USDA organic processing standards.

WHAT IS THE SHELF LIFE OF BARRIE HOUSE COFFEE CAPSULES?
The shelf life of our capsules is approximately 24 months. They contain a strong barrier to oxygen which is removed when the capsules are filled. But it is always best to enjoy your coffee as close to its manufacturing date as possible.

DO YOUR CAPSULES CONTAIN ANY BPA?
No, our capsules do not contain bisphenol-A (BPA), phthalates or halogens.

WHICH NESPRESSO MACHINES DO BARRIE HOUSE COFFEE CAPSULES WORK WITH?
Barrie House espresso capsules are specifically designed to work in the following Nespresso® Original Line coffee espresso machines:

ARE YOUR CAPSULES COMPATIBLE WITH THE NESPRESSO VERTUOLINE?
No, our capsules do not work in the Nespresso VertuoLine machine.

HOW MUCH COFFEE IS IN YOUR CAPSULES?
Most non-Nespresso brand capsules use less coffee. Ranging from 4.5 to 5.0 grams. Nespresso capsules range from 5.0 to 6.0 grams. By using specialized equipment and the worlds most advanced grinding and densifying technologies Barrie House is able to get the maximum fill of coffee into each capsule. Most will have a minimum of 6.0 grams which produces the best flavor and body.

WHY DO YOUR CAPSULES CONTAIN MORE COFFEE THAN OTHERS?
We believe you can have it all. Convenience you need with the sustainability you want all the while getting the GREATEST FLAVOR you crave! While others offer terms such as “espresso”, “lungo”, “cappuccino” and other terms to try and justify putting less coffee in their cups or make you buy more varieties needlessly, we believe that our Nespresso compatible capsules should not only be convenient, healthy, socially responsible and eco-friendly, they should also taste great and provide the flexibility to be used, however, you wish, as a ristretto, espresso, lungo or cappuccino. We can do this by providing the best in industry ratio of grams of ground coffee to brewed espresso.

HOW MUCH CAFFEINE IS IN EACH CAPSULE?
On average, our capsules contain between 60 mg and 80 mg of caffeine, except for decaf, which contains between 1 mg and 2 mg of caffeine.

ARE YOUR CAPSULES RECYCLABLE?
Yes, our capsules are recyclable under #7 (Other) wherever its accepted.

HOW DO I RECYCLE THE CAPSULES?
You need to remove any ground coffee from the capsules before placing in the recycle bin. The best way to do this is to hold each capsule over the sink, press with two fingers until the top burst and rinse with water. It’s ok to leave some of the aluminum top but try to remove as much as possible.

HOW DO I KNOW IF I CAN RECYCLE YOUR CAPSULES IN MY AREA?
To learn about what materials are accepted for recycling in your area, check out the fabulous website, Earth911. and click on the recycle search link at the top. In the search box type “#7 Plastic”.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN #7 PLASTIC RECYCLING?
Recycling programs for the “other” category vary greatly by municipality. Since it is such a broad category, some curbside programs will not accept plastic #7. However, most recycling programs are changing collection guidelines, throwing out resin codes and accepting materials based on product. When recyclers simply say, “We take all plastics,” consumers tend to recycle more because it is easier to understand. Some communities now say “we’ll recycle this container, no matter what the resin is,” this includes products categorized as #7. Many plastics are labeled with #7 including our capsules because of governmental requirements but can actually be recycled with other plastics, such as PET. These tricky aspects mean that double-checking what’s accepted in your local recycling program is a must-do for plastic #7.

WHAT IF MY RECYCLING CENTER DOES NOT ACCEPT #7 PLASTIC?
If you’re a serious recycler and your municipality doesn’t accept #7 plastic, there might be other options to rescue your used Barrie House capsules from the landfill. Please contact us directly and we will assist you locating some regional programs that might be available in your area with drop off locations. If you don’t live near one of their locations, you might still be able to participate in other mail in type programs.

WHAT’S HAPPENING WHEN THE CAPSULE DOESN’T FALL PROPER IN THE CHAMBER?
Depending on the machine, if the container with the disposed capsules is extremely full it may interfere with the new capsule dropping into place properly. Avoid this by frequently emptying out the container of disposed capsules.
