Coffee Geeks Become Technology Geeks

Pat Reynolds from Packaging World Reports New Technology at Barrie House.

Tin ties are the wire strips that adhere to the top of whole bean and ground coffee bags to enable the bag to be resealed. They are traditionally applied by hand but our Director of Sales and Marketing, Shay Zohar was in hot pursuit to automate the process.

The goal was to reduce labor cost and enable us to be more versatile in the type and size bags we use. Plus they stay on better!

    This New York coffee producer needed to automate the application of tin-tie reclosures to its bags of ground and whole-bean coffee. An ingenious and affordable machine was the result.

[Elmsford, NY] Barrie House’s brand coffee portfolio holdings are 50% fair trade organic certified coffees. Factors enabling the increase include: introducing Fair Trade Organic Espresso Capsules, expanding the offerings of single serve capsules and transitioning popular whole bean flavored coffees to fair trade organic moved Barrie House up the partner list.

Barrie House wants to expand the ongoing conversation with customers regarding where coffee comes from, how it’s made and heighten their awareness that coffee changes from harvest to harvest with climate changes, political environments and farmers’ crop decisions, in the effort to encourage coffee drinkers to have an even greater appreciation of their coffee choices.

Key to Barrie House Sustainable Strategy:
